Program: Our guest speaker was, John Swensson, a professor at De Anza College, Retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, Director
of Global Association Partnerships, Eagle Scout, and Film Producer of “Firebirds” who gave an excellent talk on a number of subjects
including Vietnam 30 years after, Martin Luther King, Jr., and his West Point classmate Jack Wheeler who was recently found dead
and his contributions to our country. Those present greatly enjoyed John’s presentation.r guest speaker will be John Swensson of De
Anza College. John Swensson’s topic will be: Vietnam 30 years after the War. John will also make brief remarks about Dr. Martin
Luther King. John is an old friend of the SVSAR and is well known for his tenure as a Department Head at De Anza College. John was
instrumental in facilitating the launch of the SVSAR scholarship program at De Anza several years ago.

Program: Our guest speaker was Commander David Slayton, USN who gave a riveting speech about the current conflicts in
Afghanistan and Iraq. Commander Slayton spoke about the difference between the wars, the impact of the war on soldiers and their
families, and what to expect in the coming days and months. The speech lead to extensive questions and discussion about the impact of
communications technology, historical events and lessons from previous wars. Commander Slayton's presentation would have continued
much longer had we not been required to vacate the room. After the presentation, Commander Slayton was provided an SAR
outstanding citizen pin by the chapter.

Program: Our guest speaker was Ray Cosyn who gave a presentation about the Flying Tigers and their participation in the Sino –
Japanese War and following in World War II. The presentation was well received by the meeting attendees and lead to a number of
questions and discussion about the Sino – Japanese War and the Flying Tiger unit.
APRIL 2011 - Meeting Canceled

Program: Our guest speaker was Phillip Giolia who gave a presentation about the history of the San Francisco Presidio from it’s initial
founding by the Spanish in the mid 1700’s to it’s closure as a military installation in the mid 1990’s. The presentation was well received
by the meeting attendees and lead to a number of questions and discussion.

Program: Our guest speaker was Warren Riley, who gave a very interesting presentation about the history of the San Francisco Bay
Area Lighthouses. He focused on the history of the lighthouses in the area, the mechanics of the lighthouses and the people behind
their management. The presentation was well received by the meeting attendees and lead to a number of questions and discussion.

Program: Our guest speaker was Bob Louden, who gave a very thought provoking and informative presentation about anticipated
changes in our lives and technology in the coming 20 years. He focused on advancing technologies which would result in technology and
automation taking over many tasks that have been performed by people in the past. The expected impacts of these changes on people’s
lives and occupations were also discussed. The presentation led to a number of questions and some discussion.

during the American Revolution.” The presentation was well received by those present and led to a number of questions and some
discussion.
